    Hans Schaepman is the General Manager at 1 Hotel Central Park, the luxury nature-driven hotel located on the corner of Central Park in Manhattan. A veteran in the hospitality industry, Schaepman’s impressive career spans more than 25 years in the global luxury hotel market in the United States, Australia, Egypt, China and the United Kingdom. He joined the 1 Hotels team two years ago when he assisted with the opening of the 1 Hotel South Beach in Miami.

    Originally from the Netherlands, Schaepman began his career at The Stanneylands Hotel near Manchester in the UK with duties such as valeting cars, bussing tables and servicing guest rooms. He then moved to the US to work at the historic Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware followed by a year at the famed Savoy Hotel in London.

    In March of 1992 Schaepman joined The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Management Company at The Ritz-Carlton, Double Bay in Sydney, Australia as a supervisor at their lobby lounge. After 3 years and several management positions Schaepman moved to The Ritz-Carlton, Boston then New York City, Pentagon City near Washington, DC then Naples, Florida followed by Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt, Miami, Florida and Pasadena, California.

    There he joined Langham Hospitality group and was appointed Hotel Manager first at their property in Boston, then at Langham’s Asian flagship hotel in Shanghai, China and was then asked to join the pre-opening team at The Langham, Chicago. After taking a yearlong sabbatical, Schaepman was approached to assist with the opening of the 1 Hotel South Beach in a consultancy role. 3 Months into that role he was asked to join SH Group in the capacity of General Manager at their soon to open 1 Hotel Central Park in New York City which has now been open for 18 months.

    During his career Hans developed a proven track record of implementing innovative and effective business development strategies including many new quality assurance initiatives which helped move up both employee as well as guest satisfaction scores at the hotels he was responsible for. He is a strong believer in making his colleagues around him stronger by leading by example, sharing his knowledge and experience and by challenging those around him to become top performers.

    Schaepman has a passion for giving back to the hotel community.  He has taught courses at hospitality schools in both Sydney and Boston and regularly hosts tours at his hotels by students at local hospitality schools. Hans currently lives in Brooklyn, New York has a strong passion for travel, spending time with family and with his hotel team involves himself with local charities and giving back to the community.
